Welcome D-Lab

D-Lab is Trinity Episcopal School’s maker space and media studio. From sewing to circuits, Photoshop to programming, students are given the space, time, and tools to imagine, design, and create.

D-Lab includes a sewing station, green screen and video and audio production equipment, 3D printers, Arduino electronics, crafts raw materials, retired electronics, and 13 state of the art Mac Pro workstations.

Learning in the Trinity’s after-school D-Lab is driven by the young inventors and artists. Students can work independently or in groups and on short or long-term investigations. The only requirement is that they bring their industrious love of learning and be willing to share their creations and discoveries.

D-Lab: A Productive Community
Students work in close proximity: creating a Makey-Makey controller, taking apart a fan, making a stop-motion animation (in background).

“Daily Specials” are highlighted on a menu board each day, but students can always self-direct from a range of activities (with new ideas and materials arriving all the time):

– creating circuits with Arduino boards, Snap Circuits, the Makey Makey, and small motors
– producing stop motion or live action videos (green screen available)
– composing original soundtracks and recording sound effects
– sewing and e-textiles
– making digital art with digital cameras, Photoshop, Sketchup…
– building prototypes from our extensive crafts and recycled materials

We just completed our 2015-16 pilot year of well-attended after-school drop-in hours for grades 4-8 and a week-long camp for grades 3-8.  In the upcoming 2016-2017 school year, we look forward to expanding our workshop space and hosting an additional D-Lab Jr. for Lower School students and Saturday “Maker Mornings” for Trinity families.
